Common Table

The Problem

Creating and coordinating an event can quickly become a stressful and ultimately discouraging undertaking.

Solution

Common Table is an event management tool created to take the headache out of event creation and coordination in order to promote togetherness.

Designing the Experience

After gathering data and insights from user interviews, the design goal became clear - to design an experience that didn’t overwhelm the user and discourage them from creating an event.

Navigating the app.

Drafting scenario and sketch iterations with pen and paper helped me to distill a visual design strategy and hierarchy of user needs into a simple sitemap, user flow, and rough sketch outline of how the app would potentially look.

Designing the mockup

Having established a plan, I proceeded to design a high-fidelity prototype using Figma.

I wanted to be certain that the user would be able to effortlessly navigate the interface so they could quickly create an event, add items needed for the event, and invite friends.

Through a series of A/B tests, participants helped choose typeface, color scheme, copy, sizing, and spacing for the app.

Prototype & Usability Testing

Creating a clickable prototype was crucial for gaining key behavioral insights about user interaction with the app.

For this project I used Figma to connect and animate corresponding fields together. I wanted to be sure to create as realistic an experience as possible for usability testing.

Participants were prompted to complete tasks, which would test the navigability of the app and uncover any design flaws.

Taking advantage of Figma’s smart animation feature enabled me to build a prototype that the user could operate naturally with minimal guidance or intervention, which made for maximum observation.

Next steps…

This project is part of an ongoing freelance design project. Next steps will be placing focus into researching and designing event management, item assignment, and invitee facing features. Stay tuned!
